This is another pretty easy mind reading trick by Criss Angel. He asks a spectator to cut a shuffled deck of cards and mark the cut. Another spectator then takes a look at the card that’s on the top of the deck after the cut. With a little mind reading, Criss is able to name just the card she is thinking of.
Explanation:
While this trick is very simple to learn, it can really look convincing with the right kind of showmanship. You should concentrate on making it look like genuine mind reading, so nobody suspects that it’s just a very clever card trick.
So, here is how it works. While Criss is shuffling the cards, he takes a peek at the top card and remembers it. He then shuffles the deck in a way that will keep that card on its place. This way, once the deck is on the table, he knows the identity of the top card. He then asks the spectator to cut the deck and mark the cut. And this is where misdirection comes in. The spectator is certain that he really marked the exact place where he cut the deck. However, that’s simply not true.
Watch the video again and really pay attention to this. You will see that the ‘marked card’ is in fact the top card, just the one Criss has remembered! After that, all he has to do is pretend to be somehow reading the mind of the spectator and then name the card.
